What should the Oakland A’s be called after the Major League Baseball team arrives in Sacramento?

A’s President Dave Kaval said on Thursday that the team will be called "just the A’s, just the Athletics," going forward.

But he also said plans are in the works to “honor” Sacramento in other ways, including with team uniforms, when the A’s temporarily relocate to Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento beginning with the 2025 season.

The A's will play at Sutter Health Park for the three seasons — there is an option for a fourth season — as the team's permanent home in Las Vegas is not expected to be ready until 2028.

"Well, you know, we're going to play as the Athletics, you know, I think because we're kind of in an interim period, we felt that that was the best way to position the club," Kaval said. "There are going to be ways, especially with our uniforms, that we will honor Sacramento. And I think we look forward to displaying those and getting that out in the community. And we'll work with all the key local stakeholders to ensure that's done in a really fun way."

On the same day of the official A’s in Sacramento announcement, the team filed trademark applications for “Sacramento A’s” and “Sacramento Athletics.”

The “Sacramento Athletics” application lists applications for clothing categories that include uniforms.
