Wrestling icon Terry Funk's demise has plunged the wrestling world into mourning. With an unparalleled legacy spanning over five decades, he's remembered by legends like Ric Flair and Mick Foley, leaving an irreplaceable void in professional wrestling.



Funk's career stood out due to its remarkable longevity. In an industry notorious for its harsh impact on athletes' bodies, Funk remained an active wrestler for over five decades. His journey commenced as a member of the Western States Sports promotion back in 1965. He proceeded to engage in wrestling matches across various platforms including WWE (formerly WWF), WCW, ECW, and numerous independent circuits.


Earlier today, Ric Flair posted to X, stating that he had never faced a person with a stronger work ethic throughout his entire life. According to Ric Flair, Terry Funk possessed remarkable wrestling skills, was a captivating entertainer, displayed incredible fearlessness, and held a significant place as a companion. Ric Flair extended his wishes for Terry Funk to rest in peace, recognizing that the irreplaceable void left by Terry Funk in professional wrestling will never be filled by anyone else. Dory Funk Jr, the brother of Terry, stated on X that Terry Funk had a complete commitment to life and held a deep affection for professional wrestling and his fans. Dory Funk Jr also conveyed, "My Brother Terry Funk was all in with life and Loved pro wrestling and his fans - Terry has been Blessed with 2 beautiful loving and supportive daughters. All my Love to my brother Terry."    



Championships held by Funk include the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, NWA World Heavyweight Championship, USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship, WWF World Tag Team Championship, and ECW World Television Championship. He headlined ECW’s premier annual pay-per-view event, November to Remember, three times. Funk has been inducted into multiple halls of fame, among them WWE, WCW, NWA, and Hardcore



Funk also has numerous film and television credits. He appeared as a bouncer in the movie Road house with Patrick Swayze. In 1999, Funk was featured in director Barry Blaustein’s wrestling documentary Beyond the Mat. He has also appeared in other movies such as Paradise AlleyThe Ringer, and Over the Top
