Domingo German’s season has been anything but perfect. But German was perfect Wednesday night. against the Oakland Athletics

The New York Yankees’ pitcher threw a perfect game during the Yankees’ 11-0 win against the Oakland Athletics in Oakland. German became just the 24th pitcher in MLB history to post a perfect game. German didn’t allow a hit or walk, and he struck out nine batters in nine innings. It’s the first perfect game in the majors since Seattle’s Felix Hernandez posted one on Aug. 15, 2012.

Germán joins Don Larsen (1956), David Wells (1998) and David Cone (1999) as the only pitchers in Yankees’ history to throw a perfect game. The Yankees now have four pitchers who have accomplished the feat, the most among MLB teams.

Few would have predicted German would throw a perfect game based on his previous performances.

German was pounded in his last start, allowing 10 runs (eight earned), eight hits and two walks in 3.1 innings against the Seattle Mariners. Before that start, he had allowed seven earned runs against the Boston Red Sox.

He was ejected and suspended for 10 games in May for allegedly violating the league’s foreign substance policy. He barely made the team’s rotation spot entering this season.

It all came together for German Wednesday night, at least for one game.
