CM Punk Finished In AEW

AEW has terminated CM Punk's contract, according to a press release from the company on Saturday. Phil Brooks, who is best known around the world as CM Punk.

The news broke on Saturday, a day before AEW’s All Out pay-per-view in Punk’s hometown of Chicago. Punk was suspended and in the midst of an internal investigation over a backstage altercation at last week’s All-In pay-per-view, where he was part of a physical confrontation with Jack Perry. The end result is Punk’s termination from AEW, a place where he had grown increasingly frustrated over the past year.

Amid considerable fanfare, Punk debuted in AEW in August of 2021. His run was appointment-viewing. He repeatedly showed that, even after nearly seven years away from pro wrestling, that he was still extremely compelling in the ring, as well as otherworldly on the microphone. But that was never the issue in AEW. At the age of 44, Punk remains a valuable commodity for a pro wrestling company. While the immediate focus will be around a return to WWE, it makes more much sense for Punk to continue his career in Japan. At this point, it is too early to speculate on Punk’s future in wrestling.
