Remington Gun Factory in New York to Close Year After Sandy Hook Settlement

A gun factory in upstate New York will close in March, in a letter sent to union officials on Thursday, RemArms said it did not arrive at the decision lightly. The factory employs 270 people and has filed for bankruptcy twice since 2018.

The union urged the company to reconsider the decision in a statement.

"This announcement is a slap in the face," the union said. "The simple fact is that RemArms will never be able to match the experience and the dedication of the workers in Central New York, who for generations worked in this plant and kept this company alive."

Remington is the country's oldest gunmaker and has produced firearms since 1816. The company paid families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims $73 million last year after firearms produced by the plant were used by the shooter.
